๐Ÿ’ต Planned Purchases (Previously Released) ๐Ÿ”

  1. Stranger of Paradise - Final Fantasy Origin (XSX) [waiting for sale or gamepass]

๐Ÿ’ญ Why? ๐Ÿ”

You should be playing games you enjoy. Just remember your pile when you start looking for something else to play, instead of purchasing another title.

Thatโ€™s really all this is for - to make sure you enjoy what youโ€™re playing and getting rid of stuff that you arenโ€™t. - Me, 2013

๐Ÿ“ Lessons Learned ๐Ÿ”

  1. I should not buy DLC until I am ready to play it. This includes season passes, as well. I should just buy the base game.
  2. I stop playing open world games when I complete the main story.
  3. I am terrible at platformers and don't enjoy playing them.
    • See Super Lucky's Tale and Mario Maker 2.
  4. I am much more of a taste-tester than I ever was before. This leads to more jettisoned games, but in the end, I find myself playing more games and getting hooked on the ones that really click with me.
  5. If a game isn't living rent free in my mind, then I should consider moving on. I value enjoyment the most, so if the fun factor or story engagement isn't there (even for AAA GOTY titles), it's ok.
    • See Control and Ghost of Tsushima.
  6. Games that frustrate me aren't fun. There's no joy in beating my head against a wall. It's likely that a game that violates this once, will do so again. Don't be fooled.
    • See Metroid Dread.
  7. No difficulty setting in a frustrating game means I am also generally not interested.
    • See Metroid Dread.
  8. Shorter games that I can complete in one to two sittings are wonderful.
    • See Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon.
  9. I do not enjoy traditional adventure games. I'm not a fan of trying every option or attempting to solve illogical puzzles as the primary form of gameplay. I am really frustrated by the โ€œget an item and then go 5+ screens away to use item and repeatโ€ mechanic.
    • See Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark.
  10. I am not always the intended audience.
  11. I should stop buying games just because they are on sale. I should buy a game when I'm ready to play it. Who knows? It might even be on Game Pass by then.
    • See Yakuza: Like a Dragon ๐Ÿ’š and Disco Elysium - The Final Cut.
  12. If I sense that I won't pick a game up once I've put it down after a session, I should just walk away. It's a sign that the game isn't interesting enough to re-engage me.
    • See Darksiders: Warmaster Edition.
  13. I don't care for physical media.
  14. Combat that feels like I'm just whittling away at the enemy's health wears thin. It can look cool, but the monotony is too much, and I will stop playing it. Chip damage games. It's like the inverse of a Musou game.
    • See Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Tales of Arise and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
  15. Having played a game as the goal is what I want to track, not just if I saw credits roll. ๐ŸŽฎ Yes, I am logging if I've played a game. You wouldn't know I loved some of them unless you dug deep, and even then you might miss it. ๐Ÿš€
    • See Elden Ring (115 hrs+) and Tales of Arise (30 hrs+).
  16. Musou games are not for me.
    • See Persona 5 Strikers and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.
  17. A new guideline might be restricting the game length of items added to the pile. ๐Ÿ“ I enjoy a lot of games, and sometimes the length of a game can be a put off. Having a reason to break the guideline is fine, it would simply be a deterrent.
    • See AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES and Scarlet Nexus and Mass Effect: Legendary Edition.
  18. If I am playing a game and want to watch something while doing it, Iโ€™m either doing the game a disservice, or the game isnโ€™t keeping me as interested as I desire
    • See Vampire Survivors.
  19. I do not vibe with rogue-likes, longterm. I enjoy playing for a bit, but once it becomes a 'game of skill', I start taking it too seriously and need to stop.
    • See Slay the Spire and Peglin.
